You Can Support a Community Event AND Preserve a Historic Building at the Same Time!

You can support a community event AND preserve a historic building at the same time!

During the 1860's, the building that houses the Bethel United Methodist Church at 141 Greenwood Ave. was built, and it is the only church building located within the Historic District of Downtown Bethel. This landmark building is in need of significant repair and repainting, and the preservation work is expected to be costly. The Church is beginning a fundraising program, starting with an exciting new community event, a fall Scarecrow Contest!

Children's groups from Bethel (scouts, etc.) are building scarecrows to be displayed on the front lawn of the church. BUMC is providing a foam pumpkin and a PVC frame, and they will create a work of art to celebrate the fall season. The public will vote on their favorite scarecrows during the annual town Halloween event on October 26, with semi-finalists being chosen in the Best Traditional Harvest Figure, Best Animal Figure, and Best Whimsical Figure (sports figure, celebrity, etc). From these three semi-finalists a Best in Show winner will be selected, and the group that built it will win a pizza party from Famous Pizza!

We need help from our business neighbors for this project. You can sponsor this event at either a $50 or $75 level.

Sponsorship packages of $50 will receive:

· The Business name on prominent signage at the event;

· Listing as a sponsor in our newsletter, website, and Facebook page;

· Listing as a sponsor in the News-Times and on the local online sites (Bethel Patch, Bulletin, Hamlet Hub, etc);

· Placement of your business literature on the judging day.

Sponsorship at the $75 level will receive all the above benefits plus a $25 gift certificate to our monthly Pasta Dinner to use or give away.

All funds raised through this event will be used solely for preserving this historic building, which is a familiar sight in the downtown area and a part of the New England Charm that makes Bethel a special town. If you are not interested in sponsoring this event, but would still like to make a donation in any amount, it would be greatly appreciated!  You can send a check to BUMC, 141 Greenwood Ave., Bethel, CT 06801.  Please put "painting fund" in the memo line.

For more information or to sponsor the event, please contact Lori Mott at (203) 300-8516 or email via zoogirl527@gmail.com. Home-based businesses such as Avon, Pampered Chef, etc. are welcome as well!  Thank you very much for helping us with this project!
