Waterworks Team H20 Pours on the Support for Ann's Place

Last night, hundreds of area residents and Ann’s Place supporters headed to the Amber Room in Danbury, laced up their sneakers participated in Run From The Sun, a 5K scenic run to Candlewood Lake and back.

We sat down with the event’s top fundraiser, Shannon Simmons, Director, Client Services & Channel Support at Waterworks in Danbury to learn more about her team H20 and their dedication to Ann’s Place.

Waterworks Team H20 surpassed their 2018 fundraising goal by a landslide and raised a whopping $21,226! “We’ve really gotten creative!” says Shannon. In 2017, Team H20 launched “Costumes for a Cause”. “You could sponsor one of our team members and they wore a costume in the 5K. There were different sponsorship levels,” explains Shannon. For $500, the Waterworks participant had run in a ballerina costume, complete with a tiara, wig and butterfly wings.

After raising $13, 874 in 2017, Simmons decided to raise the bar and made the 2018 goal 14K. Team H20 swapped the costumes for some innovative marketing and announced on their liquidation website that, for a limited time, 5% of sales would be donated to Ann’s Place. “The sales reached 220K!” exclaimed Simmons. Yesterday, the company made am 11,056 donation to Team H20 in support of Ann’s Place, bringing their total amount raised to more than 20K.

Waterworks in Danbury fully embraces Ann’s Place mission and service. In 2006, when Ann’s Place built a beautiful new 17,000 square foot facility on Saw Mill Road in Danbury, the company was behind them all the way. “Waterworks donated material for their new building. That’s when our bond with Ann’s Place began.”

The company’s support for Ann’s Place is sure to prevail long after the sun sets on the annual Run for the Sun 5K. “We’re local, they are local. We’re located just 5 minutes down the road from Ann’s Place,” says Simmons who adds, “We have all been impacted by cancer in some way and many of us [at Waterworks] have friends or family members who have relied on Ann’s Place.” says Simmons.

The mission of Ann’s Place is to provide comfort, support and resources to people living with cancer and to their loved ones. They provide all of their services free of charge. To learn more about Ann’s Place, click here.
