Stop & Shop's Reusable Bag Program to Benefits Danbury Area Refugee Assistance

Give Back in Ridgefield: Stop & Shop's Reusable Bag Program Aims to Eliminate Single-Use Plastics While Donating to Local Nonprofits

This year, local community nonprofits are more in need of support than at any other time in recent years. Now, shoppers can give back to their community as part of their regular shopping routine. Purchasing a reusable Community Bag at Stop & Shop both supports nonprofits and helps reduce single-use plastics. Every month, at every Stop & Shop, a different local nonprofit will benefit from this program.

Danbury Area Refugee Assistance (DARA) is the benefiting nonprofit in the Community Bag Program for September, as selected by the Ridgefield, CT Stop & Shop's store leadership. DARA will receive a $1.00 donation for every $2.50 Community Bag purchased at the Ridgefield, CT Stop & Shop in September.

"This year has been exceptionally challenging for nonprofits. At DARA, both maintaining our normal services as well as fundraising have been extremely difficult," said Barbara Davis, DARA’s president. "We are therefore thrilled that Stop & Shop has offered us the opportunity to participate in this innovative program. We deeply appreciate the community support in this important initiative to make a difference."

DARA, founded in October of 2015, is a 501(c)(3) organization that resettles refugee families, providing advocacy and support as these families work toward self-sufficiency to become productive members of our communities. DARA’s volunteers hail from the Greater Danbury Area — including Bethel and Ridgefield — and beyond. In 2018, members of the Refugee Resettlement Community–Ridgefield (RRCR) joined with DARA's original Bethel members and volunteers from surrounding towns to form DARA as it is today. Our board members and volunteers come from many different walks of life and have made DARA stronger with every person who joins.
