An Afternoon of Poetry at Byrd's Books on April 14

Byrd's Books will host an afternoon of poetry on Saturday April 14 at 3 p.m. Featured poets include Donna Marie Merritt, Gail Carson Levine, Jen Sage-Robison, Phillip Lu, Marilyn Nelson, and Doug Anderson. The event is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be served.

On its website, the bookstore shared the following excerpt from "The House on Moscow Street" by Marilyn Nelson:

...In the middle bedroom's hard,
high antique double bed,
the ghost of Aunt Jane,
the laundress
who bought the house in 1872,
though I call with all my voices,
does not appear.
Nor does Pomp's ghost,
with whom one of my cousins believes
she once had a long and intimate
unspoken midnight talk.
He told her, though they'd never met,
that he loved her; promised
her raw widowhood would heal
without leaving a scar...."

Byrd's Books is located at 126 Greenwood Avenue in Bethel. To register for the event, click here.
