Bethel's Byrd's Books stocks its shelves with the adventure of uncovering, and poetry a delightful gem. "Poetry is ordinary language raised to the Nth power. Poetry is boned with ideas, nerved and blooded with emotions, all held together by the delicate, tough skin of words," said noted American poet Paul Engle. The popular independent bookstore, located at 126 Greenwood Avenue across from historic P.T. Barnum Square, celebrates the art form with "volume III" of its spring poetry reading series on Friday, May 18th at 7:00pm.
The evening of "spoken word" will feature such recognized Connecticut poet/authors as Amy Nawrocki who celebrates the preservation and renewal of New England landscapes; Cortney Davis, a nurse practitioner who often speaks to the intersections between health and illness; Emily Carney who "browses the mace bottles on Amazon"; and Jerry Brooker who, among other efforts, has raised more than $1 million dollars in aid to feed the children of the world. Eclectic and "boned with ideas."
The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served and books will be available for purchase. To reserve a seat, go to https://conta.cc/2Hu72uD
