Bethel's Byrd's Books hosts Durham CT young folks author of Amphibian Acrobats March 22

Have you ever encountered an agile Wallace's flying frog from the Malay Peninsula, or a bouncing Venezuelan pebble toad, or the tricky salamander from British Columbia called the yellow-eyed ensatina? These show-stopping creatures hail from around the world and your own backyard.

On Sunday, March 22nd, 2:00pm to 3:30pm, Bethel's Byrd's Books will host young folks author and poet, Leslie Bulion, of Durham, CT, as the popular, independent bookshop celebrates the publication of her latest book, Amphibian Acrobats. Her  entertaining collection of science verses about some of the world's most remarkable frogs, salamanders, and caecilians is intended for 8 to 12 year-olds. Along with her frolicsome poetry, she'll share amazing amphibian antics on the big screen, with a sing-along and art activities.  Byrd's Books is located at 178 Greenwood Avenue, adjacent to The Toy Room and the nearby landmarked Opera House, across the street from the Bethel Public Library.

In Amphibian Acrobats, the author includes a science glossary, notes on poetry forms, and resources for information about these extraordinary animals. Witty drawings by Robert Meganck add another layer of fun to this humorous and informative work. Join Byrd's Books and get to know all about these lively, watery denizens by saving your spot at https://conta.cc/2PtnmP0 (Please note: In the event that an author visit is rescheduled or cancelled, Byrd's Books will post the schedule change on its website and Facebook pages.)

Leslie Bulion’s eclectic studies—she's earned a BA at Cornell University, an MS at the University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Oceanography, and an MSW at Southern Connecticut State University—enrich her poems and novels in myriad ways. Originally a social worker, she began writing for children after a family trip to East Africa in 1998. The experience inspired her to write the picture book, Fatuma’s New Cloth (2002), winner of the Children’s Africana Book Award. Her highly regarded interactive presentations offer an engaging and seamless multi-sensory experience of science, language arts, music, and art that are not to be missed by young or old.

Byrd's Books is open Tuesdays through Saturdays 10:00am to 6:00pm, Sundays 12:00 noon to 4:00pm. On street parking lines Greenwood Avenue, and municipal parking is available at the Bethel Public Library across the street and at the "Old Train Station" which is where Broken Symmetry now resides. There are private lots nearby as well. For more information, visit ByrdsBooks.com or call (203) 730 BYRD (2973).
