Bethel's Byrd's Books continues Book Club gatherings online, June 25

Bethel's popular bookstore, Byrd's Books, hosts former international journalist, Neal Bascomb,  a widely recognized speaker on the subject of war, as its special guest when its History Book Group reconvenes online on Thursday, June 25th, 7:00pm to 9:00pm.

The evening's gathering will feature a discussion of the New York Times best-selling author's The Escape Artists, the spellbinding story of the downed Allied airmen who masterminded the remarkably courageous-and ingenious-breakout from Germany's most devilish POW camp. The conversation will also take a peek at Neal's writing process and his newest book, Faster. Says shop owner Alice Hutchinson, "We have decided to begin author events and book group meetings in the virtual world, so off we go. I couldn't be more pleased to have Neal join our enthusiastic band of history buffs as Byrd's Books continues its efforts - with baby steps, careful steps - to serve and entertain its community."

To register, receive the Zoom link, and purchase The Escape Artists in paperback, go to https://conta.cc/3d78GOH. There, you may also buy a signed copy of Faster, a race car tale of the unlikeliest of heroes, one who's been banned from the best European teams - and fastest cars - by the mid-1930s because of his Jewish heritage. Visit ByrdsBooks.com for the most up-to-date calendar of Byrd's Books online author events and book club gatherings, and to sign up for the latest on what's hot for your summer reading list.

Though Byrd's Books  is closed to browsing, the shop is currently available by phone and offers curbside pick up from 10:00am to 5:00pm. Additionally, the bookstore has unlocked the front door for touch-free pick-up and payment of your purchases or books can be shipped directly to your home. Byrd's Books is located at 178 Greenwood Avenue, adjacent to The Toy Room and the nearby landmarked Opera House, across the street from the Bethel Public Library. To answer questions and get suggestions on the latest books to read, call (203) 730 BYRD (2973).
