HamletHub is proud to partner with the Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County and FCBuzz to Elevate Arts and Culture in Fairfield County! Each Friday, look a listing of weekend events and activities!

The Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County celebrates the vibrancy and diversity of the arts and culture across the 15 towns in our region of coastal Fairfield County and each Tuesday issues our free E-Buzz newsletter with a selection of the hundreds of events posted to our website by our members.

Arts Festivals are blooming and the newest one opens up this entire weekend in Weston. The first ever Weston Fine Arts Festival takes place Saturday and Sunday, 10am-5pm, on the fair grounds at 9 School Road, with art, food and music. WestonArts partnered with Gordon Fine Arts to put on this juried art show to support local artists. In an edition to the 70 juried artists in the main show Miggs Burroughs, Lisa Stretton and Agata Tria have juried a separate show. Chris Coogan and his quintet will be performing 12-1:45 pm, leading up to the ribbon-cutting ceremony at 2pm and then famed musician Jose Feliciano will perform after the ceremony. See the wide range of art, enjoy the music and the food trucks. Learn more here.

Also on the visual art front the Hollis Taggart Gallery celebrates with a reception Saturday at 5:30pm of the first year anniversary of opening its gallery in Southport with Reunion: a group show featuring recent paintings and sculptures by ten contemporary artists associated with the gallery (based in Athens, Brooklyn, Denver, Los Angeles, Maine, Vienna, and upstate New York). The show highlights each artist’s particular style, technique, medium, themes, and intentions while showcasing enthralling works that represent the latest developments in contemporary art. Learn more here.

There is plenty of theatre and dance over the weekend. While the first Fairfield County Dance Festival happened Thursday in New Canaan (we look for more later this year) the Connecticut Ballet comes to the Levitt Pavilion in Westport for full free evening of ballet performed by Connecticut’s professional ballet company presenting five world premieres. Learn more here.

Curtain Call’s 18th summer of free Shakespeare proceeds in Stamford’s Sterling Farms on Newfield Avenue with a production of Romeo and Juliet on Curtain Call's own version of the Globe Theatre stage. Performances will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 7:30pm on the great lawn alongside The Royal Green Restaurant. Learn more here.

And the Summer Theatre of New Canaan opens its production this weekend of “The Honky Tonk Angels,” a hilarious musical about three gals who follow their dreams to Nashville. Hit songs include: “Stand By Your Man,” “9 to 5,” “I Will Always Love You,” “These Boots Are Made for Walking” and “Coal Miner’s Daughter.”  The show features an all-star women’s country band on stage!
