RHS JAZZ STUDENTS GET A FIRSTHAND LESSON WITH TROMBONE SHORTY AT THE RIDGEFIELD PLAYHOUSE TONIGHT

RHS JAZZ STUDENTS GET A FIRSTHAND LESSON WITH TROMBONE SHORTY AT THE RIDGEFIELD PLAYHOUSE TONIGHT Tonight’s show with Trombone Shorty at The Ridgefield Playhouse is not only going to be an amazing night of Jazz, funk and blues but it’s also going to be a great way for the Ridgefield High School Jazz band to get up close and personal with one of the most popular and influential jazz musicians of our time. Trombone Shorty describes his music as “Supafunkrock,” a blend of rock, pop, jazz, funk, and hip hop and says it’s important for young people to learn different kinds of music. Tonight, more than 15 RHS Jazz students will be on hand to hear this music firsthand as part of The Leir Foundation Arts for Everyone outreach program at The Ridgefield Playhouse. The show, which starts at 7:30pm tonight (Sunday, September 19) will be a celebration of New Orleans culture as well as funk, blues and everything in between. The musician Troy Andrews, known as “Trombone Shorty,” started playing the trombone on the streets of New Orleans at age 4 and led his first band at age 8. At age 31, Trombone Shorty plays his music for audiences around the world and was the closing act in the New Orleans’ Jazz Fest last spring. There are still tickets for tonights show, which is part of the Moffly Media Art Wine and Jazz series AND the Pepsi Rock Series powered by North American Motor Cars. Join us in the lobby at 6:30pm for a complimentary wine tasting by Freixenet Ice and an art exhibit by RPAC Gallery artist Lily Fertik.
