P. T. Barnum

Hear about the rich legacy of memories Bethel native P. T. Barnum left us, including his Barnum and Bailey Circus, and about his path to success. Also included is an audio clip of Barnum made by Thomas Edison!

Presenter Mike Allen is a professional broadcaster of the popular podcast Amazing Tales From Off and On Connecticut's Beaten Path.  He interviews experts about  fascinating people, places and events from throughout Connecticut's rich history.  Prior to that, he was the on-air radio News Director at i-95 FM.

 

Healing With Books

Join historian Mary Mahoney as she tells stories about bibliotheraphy, or the use of books as medicine. Have you ever turned to a book for consolation? This talk will explain the many uses of books as medicine in our world today and its history.

Mary Mahoney is a historian, writer, and podcaster living and working in Connecticut. She earned her Ph.D. in History at the University of Connecticut and is currently writing a history of bibliotherapy in America. In the fall of 2023, she will publish Dolls of our Lives, a memoir/travelogue/history of American Girl and its impact on generations of fans.

Winter Sowing

Winter sowing is a method that reuses containers to provide ideal growing conditions for starting many native seeds. The first 20 attendees to register for in person will receive a prepared container with seeds for you to try out on your own.

Presenter J. D. Hill is a local resident and board member of the Bethel Land Trust. A biologist by occupation, he enjoys gardening and preserving our open spaces for wildlife and public enjoyment.

Materials are sponsored by the Bethel Land Trust (BethelLandTrust.org).

Long Term Care

As we age, long-term care becomes statistically likely, but it's so expensive. Attend this event to understand how you can properly protect your life savings, how Medicaid can help pay for long-term care costs, and how to protect your money if a crisis arises.  

Presenter Steven Rubin, J.D., was born in New Haven and graduated from the University of Connecticut, and then attended Widener University School of Law in Pennsylvania. Steven helps his clients deal with tough issues such as death, incapacity, disability, special needs, social security, asset protection and taxes, and provides assistance in the best and least stressful way possible.
