Hearing Rachel Carson's Voice Now on Wednesday, September 13 at Bethel Public Library

What You Don't Know Could Kill You: Hearing Rachel Carson's Voice Now on Wednesday, September 13 from 6:30-7:30 PM

Please join us for an exciting, urgent workshop about Rachel Carson's famous book, Silent Spring, and its critical relevance to us in this moment of environmental change and crisis.

In Silent Spring, Rachel informed the public about the effects of serious and long-lived pesticides such as DDT. Her book caused such an outcry that DDT was eventually banned, and far-reaching changes were made to protect our air, land, and water; this book is credited with launching the environmental movement. What can we learn from this book about protecting ourselves today?

This event is co-sponsored by The Bethel Land Trust

Our presenter, Elaine Savory, Ph.D., is an Emeritus Professor from the New School (NYC) and the recently retired chair of the Environmental Studies Department at the school. A dynamic speaker, Dr. Savory is a pioneer in the new field of "Environmental Humanities", which utilizes humanities training to interpret environmental science to a wider readership, finding innovative pathways to combine different ways of thinking and knowledge.
