Bells Ring in Bethel for Day of Healing, Sunday, Aug 25, at 3 pm

Bethel's Episcopal and Methodist churches will ring their bells at 3 p.m., Sunday, August 25, in observance of a National Day of Healing for the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the first enslaved Africans in English-occupied North America.

The National Park Service is inviting the public nationwide to ring bells at 3 p.m. Eastern this Sunday  "to honor the first Africans who landed in 1619 at Point Comfort and 400 years of African American history."

St. Thomas' Episcopal Church and Bethel United Methodist Church, both on Greenwood Avenue, will ring their bells.  The community is invited to bring their own bells to ring.
