Western Connecticut State University and Nuvance Health hosted Mission Health Day on Oct. 5 on the WCSU Midtown campus, serving more than 600 people.
Nuvance and its doctors, nurses and other health professionals provided health evaluations in a medical tent set up by the Connecticut National Guard. Volunteers handed out new winter coats, hats, socks and other products, while 30 vendors offered education and services.
The event was designed for local individuals and families in need of health services, housing support and other community service aid. Some 452 adults and 186 children were served for a total of 638.
Medical professionals, social service advocates and student volunteers provided the one-stop health, housing and social service fair in WCSU’s Bill Williams Gym.
The university began offering an annual day of support to area homeless and working poor more than a decade ago. For the past three years, WCSU and Nuvance (formerly Danbury Hospital) have worked together to provide a full combination of medical, social and economic services.
