Bethel Parks & Rec Summer Programs on Hold Through August 1, Town Hall reopens June 1

Bethel Town Hall to have limited reopening on June 1

Safety shields are being installed in all offices where employees greet the public and safety procedures are being developed to allow us to begin welcoming the public back to the municipal center. Access will be limited and the following rules will be in place:

  • Office visits will be by advanced appointment only; a full list of department phone numbers and email addresses will be published soon.
  • Residents and business owners are still strongly encouraged to use online services whenever possible.
  • All visitors to town hall will be required to wear a mask when in the building.
  • All visitors will be required to check in and receive a temporary guest pass (this will allow our staff to keep a visitor log to aid in contact tracing, should it become necessary).

SUMMER PARKS & RECREATION PROGRAMS ON HOLD THROUGH AUGUST 1ST

After many weeks of careful deliberation and consultations with several state and industry agencies, the Parks & Recreation Department has made the difficult decision to cancel summer camp programs.

We are very much aware that this will cause difficulty for working parents who depend on summer camp programs, and we sincerely wish this wasn’t so. Given the extremely tight restrictions on the size of gatherings, the challenges of keeping facilities and bathrooms cleaned and sanitized multiple times per day and the threat of having children possibly carry home the virus to vulnerable family members, the decision was ultimately unavoidable. I can assure everyone that our staff and camp counselors who love working with kids are just as disappointed as you are. The department is studying how to safely restart youth sports in the fall and will release more information later in the summer.

On the brighter side, the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection announced today that all of Connecticut’s state beaches will be open for Memorial Day weekend. If you go, plan to arrive early, as crowd density will be controlled. And remember to continue to observe social distancing practices on the beach.
