Bethel Public Schools Learning Models Effective December 7

Today, in a letter to the school community Bethel Public Schools Superintendent Christine L.  Carver, Ed.D. shared updated Learning Models, effective December 7 as follows:

COF/BS/RS

Full In-Person Learning on December 7th

JES

Hybrid on December 7th through December 23rd, with Wednesday being a distance learning day

BMS

Hybrid on December 7th through December 23rd, with Wednesday being a distance learning day

BHS

Hybrid on December 7th through December 23rd, with Wednesday being a distance learning day

Carver said, "We do continue to feel it is appropriate to maintain the hybrid model at Johnson School, Bethel Middle School, and Bethel High School to maximize our ability to socially distance our students, particularly as we see the level of community spread.  Johnson School and Bethel Middle School have some of the largest in-person class sizes.   If our community data warrants it, we will be developing a plan to gradually increase the amount of in-person time at all schools."

The success in keeping schools opens is a community effort! Carver says that the following protocols are critically important:

  • Avoid ALL social gatherings.
  • Monitor your child’s health.  If they have any symptoms of COVID-19, keep them at home.
  • Do NOT send your child to school with any medications to mask symptoms.
  • If you attended ANY social gathering over the holiday weekend that violates CDC guidance, we are requesting that you quarantine your children for fourteen days (14) from the date of the gathering.
  • Follow the travel advisory.  If you traveled to any state on the advisory list, contact your school nurse to find out what is required to return to school.
  • Consult your medical provider and get tested if you have any COVID-19 symptoms.
  • If someone in your household is symptomatic and being tested for COVID-19, keep all of your family members home UNTIL you get a negative test result.
  • If your child is being tested for COVID-19, or has been asked to quarantine by the Health Department, please contact your school nurse.
  • Wear a mask, wash your hands, and maintain social distancing at all times.

Carver says, "We will continue to send out letters to families when there is a positive case within the schools.  Please note, over the last week we saw some delays in when we received information.  We believe, due to the volume in testing, it has caused delays in receiving test results.  When we get the information, we notify families within hours of getting the results."

Bethel Public Schools have revised COVID data tracking to include separated data for positive cases among staff and students. "We did not initially separate the data because it may have provided more personally identifiable information, which would have violated confidentiality laws," says Carver.

Carver concluded her correspondence by saying, "We are definitely stronger together.   We will continue to keep you updated as the situation evolves.  On behalf of the entire Bethel Public Schools, I want to thank you for your continued support.  We appreciate all of your individual family efforts that keep our students and staff safe. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at carverc@bethel.k12.ct.us."
