
Republican Dan Carter was sworn in as Bethel's new First Selectman last week at the Clifford J. Hurgin Municipal Center after defeating Democrat and acting First Selectman Rich Straiton in the Town's special election.
Carter received 2218 votes and Straiton's total was 1568. View the results here.
Carter is a former Air Force Officer and Pilot, a graduate of ROTC and Squadron Officer’s School where he was recognized for leadership and academic excellence. He is also a Desert Storm veteran and achieved the rank of Major.
Carter served for 6 years as State Representative where he served on the General Law (Ranking Member), Education, Finance Revenue & Bonding, Public Health, Energy & Technology, and Banking committees. He served on the Governor’s Special Education Advisory Council, as well as community non-profit boards.
