Bethel artist Elizabeth White’s piece Migration to be included in Mattatuck Museum’s upcoming exhibit

#BelieveInWaterbury opening September 10th!

Bethel CT artist, Elizabeth White has been selected to show her work in a group exhibition entitled #IBelieveInWaterbury at the Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury, CT. Her work-in-progress, "Migration," will be shown at the Museum, 144 West Main Street, Waterbury, Ct,  from Sunday, September 10th through Sunday, December 3rd. As the piece continues, a mass of life-cast cement leaves, drifting in different directions, it also continues to address the artist's ongoing concerns and message.

White says, "This work called 'Migration' is, like Waterbury, a work-in-progress, ever evolving. The age old phenomenon of splitting and shifting populations is once again at the forefront of debate. This small city is powerfully impacted by a host of colliding immigrant cultures and is always processing its distinct characters and identities. Dozens of languages are spoken here. It is by means of this multiple ethnicity that our American culture is exemplified." She adds, "In view of the current economic disasters, political conditions, military actions and climate or earth changes, I see immigration as the new normal. What may be them today is us tomorrow."

The artist most recently exhibited at the Saunders Farm Sculpture Festival overlooking the Hudson River in Garrison, NY, and for Flushing Council on Culture and the Arts on the grounds of Flushing Town Hall in New York City.

A reception for the exhibiting #IBelieveInWaterbury artists will be held on Sunday, September 10th from1:00pm to 3:00pm. Other exhibitions opening that day are An Artist for All Seasons: Dmitri Wright, Ùtútù by Nnenna Okore, and in the Museum's Monteiro Family Community Gallery, The Valley Girls.
