IHS Student, Adriana Chamberlin of Bethel, Receives Scholastic Art Awards

Immaculate High School (IHS) is proud to announce that four students received Scholastic Arts Awards from the Connecticut Art Education Association. Adriana Chamberlin ‘18 of Bethel, Joseph Crowley ‘18 of Ridgefield, Ilona Ludanyi ‘18 of Newtown and Feiyan Nancy Yue ‘18 of Danbury were honored for their creative, original artwork, with Feiyan receiving top honors.

Adriana received recognition for her watercolor painting “Gravity” while Joseph drew praise for his charcoal drawing ”Old World,” and Ilona was honored in the Design category for her original board game “Like Clockwork;” all three won Silver Key Awards. Ilona used Immaculate’s new 3D printer to produce original game pieces for her game. Feiyan won a Gold Key Award and the Jerry’s Artarama CT Best in Design award for her poster for IHS’s fall drama production Twelfth Night in the Design category.

“We are very proud of our students’ accomplishments and that they are recognized this way,” said Samantha Kohler, Department Chair of the IHS Fine Arts Department. “All of our students are passionate about and work hard on their art and graphic designs, and we will be displaying these winning pieces with all other student artwork at our annual “Arts in the Park” art show on May 24,” she added.

The four Scholastic Arts awards students were honored at the 29th Annual Art Awards Ceremony on Sunday, January 28 at the Lincoln Theater at the University of Hartford, and their winning artwork will be displayed at Hartford Art School’s Silpe Gallery, Taub Hall, on the University of Hartford Campus beginning January 14 through February 2, 2018. It is open to the public Monday through Friday from 10am-4pm and weekends 12-4pm.

The Connecticut Art Education Association, Inc. is a state affiliate of the National Art Education Association and is represented on the board of the Connecticut Alliance for Arts Education. It promotes the value of art education in the schools and in the community and is a major sponsor of the Connecticut Regional Scholastic Art Awards program.  Its mission “supports, advances, encourages, improves and inspires the quality of visual arts education in order to cultivate creativity, human potential and global understanding.”
