Meet RVNA staffer Katelyn Wise Scribner
Look behind the scenes of RVNA’s community health programs and you’ll likely find Katelyn Wise Scribner. An organizing maven with a passion for wellness (and the shore!), Katelyn orchestrates everything from the annual RVNA Health & Wellness Fair to Flu Shot Clinics and more. A college internship brought her to Ridgefield but – like much of the RVNA family – it was her interest in helping others that landed her on our doorstep. Around the building, Katelyn is known for her hard work, team spirit, and dedication to the community she helps serve. See for yourself….
Where did you grow up and where do you live now?
I grew up in Newtown, CT, and lived there until last year when I got married. My husband and I now have an apartment in Bethel. (Thanks to RVNA’s receptionist, Norma, for connecting us with her sister who had the apartment available!)
What is your role at RVNA?
I’m now the Marketing & Programs Coordinator. I started out as the Community Health & Wellness Coordinator, scheduling appointments for vaccines, and coordinating well child clinics, flu clinics, and our annual Health & Wellness Fair. Although I still do these administrative tasks and event planning for the Community Health department, I have now taken on the additional role of assisting with the Marketing department.
How long have you been at RVNA?
I have been at RVNA for 6 ½ years now. I consider myself lucky that I was able to find a job that I liked fresh out of college and still be in that job years later. Time has flown by!
What brought you here?
My college internship advisor would always send out job openings that she was are of in the area. My college degree was in Health Promotion, and when I saw the opening at RVNA, it sounded like a great fit. I also did part of my internship at The Boys and Girls Club (our neighbors on Governor Street!) so I became familiar with Ridgefield at that time, too, which was helpful.
Being able to help people. A lot of what the Community Health department offers are preventative services. It’s great to be able to connect people to services and know that we are helping to keep them healthy and safe. Also, the people I work with are all such nice people. It’s a great group.
Have you ever considered becoming a nurse?
Yes and no. I would love to be able to help people like that and I think the human body is pretty amazing in the way it heals. But I think of all the things that nurses see and do, and I just don’t think I could handle it.
What do you love to do when you’re not working?
My husband and I got a kitten about 6 months ago, so recently when I’m not at work, I’m home playing with our kitty. You can also find me watching my husband and his brothers play baseball, or at the beach — I love the beach! Unfortunately the weather this summer hasn’t been the best.
What is your hidden talent?
Organizing… haha… maybe that’s not so hidden! It’s a big part of my job and something I enjoy doing both at work and home. My friend and I did take some cake decorating classes a few years back, which was also fun.
What would you do if you won the lottery?
Being newly married, we would definitely use some of the money for a down payment on a house. Then I would want to explore the world. There are so many places I would love to be able to travel to and, while we were there, I’d want to donate to some areas of the world that need it most. I would also love to be able to help out my closest family and friends.
Do you have a favorite RVNA moment or story?
There are so many moments to pick from, but the one thing they all have in common is hearing how appreciative people are of the care and services we provide. It’s great to know that what we do has such a positive effect on others’ lives; it makes it all worth it.
