Byrd's Books Honors Bethel's First Poet Laureate on November 9

Review poet Cortney Davis' choice of quotations that move her ways of thinking and doing, like the words of Maya Angelou, and you'll swiftly get to know the woman named Bethel's first poet laureate. The recipient of a profusion of honors will be honored once again at a celebration of her expansive work and recent town title on Saturday, November 10th at 6:30pm at Byrd's Books.

Cortney will be joined by other finalists for this informal evening of poetry and light refreshments. For poetry lovers, her books will be available for sale at the popular bookshop and town gathering place, located at 178 Greenwood Avenue, adjacent to The Toy Room and the nearby landmarked Opera House, across the street from the Bethel Public Library.

Of her multi-talented career, Cortney writes, "I am a poet, memoirist, creative non-fiction writer, and a nurse practitioner.  While I do write about things other than medicine, I'm most often drawn to the intersection of health and illness, and to the mysteries of the body. In writing, it's possible to view the illness experience from both sides of the sickbed―what we as patients might experience as well as what we as caregivers experience.  Most of all, I try, in poetry and prose, to understand the complexities of caregiving, that most intimate of human relationships."
