Community Update Monday, May 4, 2020
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
As you are probably aware from recent press reports, Connecticut will begin the process of reopening our state's economy later this month. In his most recent press briefing, Governor Lamont presented his outline of reopening businesses in series of phases spaced about 30 days apart beginning May 20th. The first phase will include reopening the following:
- Restaurants (outdoor seating only)
- Retail shops
- Offices (but working from home should continue where possible)
- Hair and nail salons
- Outdoor museums and zoos
- Additional outdoor recreation not already open (such as camping)
- University research programs
The governor stressed, however, that the reopening on this timetable is highly dependent on continued improvement in lowering the rate of new infections and hospitalizations.
In order to begin to reopen Connecticut on this schedule, it is just as important as ever to keep following the social distancing practices to keep ourselves and our families safe.
With regard to Bethel's playgrounds and recreational facilities, we will follow the guidance of state health officials. Right now our Parks & Recreation department is laying out plans for enhanced daily cleaning and sanitizing of playground equipment and public restrooms.
Unfortunately, we are still waiting for the state to issue a reopening date for schools.
Watch for more details about local and state reopening information over the next two weeks. In the meantime, keep washing, keep distancing and keep wearing your masks. These are safety steps that are getting us closer to reopening every day.
