Bethel's Issabelle Fontaine is an Amazing Teen Award Winner

Issabelle Fontaine is a 13 year old middle schooler at Bethel Middle School who is a Cadette Girl Scout with a troop 50445 in Bethel. Issabelle is also a recommended black belt at Connecticut Martial Arts CMA.

In 2019 Issabelle began working on her Silver Award Project called The Little Laundromat Library Project. The goal of this service project was to provide books for children in local laundromats.  With help from her classmates, teachers, community,TKD Dojang, and other Girl Scouts from all over the country.  Issabelle collected and distributed books and placed them in local laundromats.

When the Pandemic started Issabelle had to adjust and change her project because many places were closed. She started distributing books at food banks, shelters, food distribution sites, churches and schools all over Fairfield County.  Issabelle bagged, quarantined and distributed more than 10,000 books for her project in 11 months.

In February 2021 Issabelle was awarded the Prudential Spirit of Community Medal for the State of Connecticut. She was also awarded the Presidential Volunteer Service Award by the President of the United States. "Even in a pandemic kids can make a difference in their communities" says Issabelle. Issabelle credits her perseverance and humility to her teachers and TKD Masters that have taught her to solve problems and make change in her community.
