Bethel resident Robert Edward Greeley, Sr., 91, has died

Robert Edward Greeley, Sr., 91, of Bethel, husband of the late Alberta Jane (Dibble) Greeley, died on Friday, March 26, 2021, at Bethel Health Care, Bethel.

Mr. Greeley was born in Danbury, February 6, 1930, the son of George A. and Harriet (Canzler) Greeley. He attended St. Joseph School and graduated from Henry Abbott Technical School, both of Danbury. A U.S. Army veteran serving from 1951 to 1953, he was stationed in Anchorage Alaska. He traveled to Alaska aboard the USS Fuxton and his duties were Item Identification and Classification.

Mr. Greeley was a Parts Planner with the Barden Corporation, retiring in 1993 after 43 years of service. He was a 68-year member of the Beaver Brook Volunteer Fire Department serving as a Hose Lieutenant and in later years as a Trustee. Mr. Greeley was affectionately known as “The Mayor of Beaverbrook”. Mr. Greeley enjoyed his Tuesday morning Coffee Group at JK’s with his lifelong friends and also spending time with his family. He is survived by a son, Robert E. Greeley, Jr. and his wife Karen of New Milford, Patricia Cannizzaro, and Judy Koukos and her husband George all of Danbury, four grandchildren, John Koukos (Amanda), Kristen Koukos (Matthew), Catherine Sparano (Daniel) and David Benjamin Greeley, two great grandchildren, Logan George Koukos and Benjamin Louis Koukos and two beloved nieces, Cheryl Carroll and Eileen Kavall Bornstein. In addition to his parents and wife of 64 years who predeceased him in 2020, he was also predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy (Greeley) Meade and Margaret “Peggy” (Greeley) Kavall Scalzo.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at 9 a.m. in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Danbury. Interment will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury. COVID-19 protocols must be observed. Hand sanitizing, facial coverings and social distancing must be strictly followed. There will be no calling hours.
