In 2010, on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, American Express launched Small Business Saturday to encourage people to "Shop Small" during the holiday season. Here at HamletHub, we applaud this shop local movement and remind the community to shop small - 365 days a year!
Many small businesses lack the recognition they deserve for the vital role they play in communities. Following discussions with Jeff Konchalski, owner of Nature's Temptations, about the importance of shopping small, on January 1, 2018, we launched "Why Small Businesses Matter". This is our signature "Shop Local" campaign which features a series of stories designed to educate the community while providing local businesses the opportunity to showcase their goods and services.

When the pandemic hit, we "reimagined" our Why Small Businesses Matter series so small businesses could connect with their customers and share their new and innovative ways of operation. To adhere to CDC guidelines and make shopping safe and convenient in this new "now", local shops revamped their websites to offer online shopping, offered curbside pickup and delivery. They met our needs in creative ways.
Thanks to the support of Fairfield County Bank, HamletHub is able to provide free exposure for small businesses. Our Why Small Businesses Matter series is a way to virtually open the door to Main Street in Connecticut.
Here's how it works: local business owners are asked a few simple, thought-provoking questions, and their answers are published on HamletHub.com, social media channels, and in our daily e-newsletter. Since January 2020, more than three hundred businesses have had an opportunity to share their stories. In total, we have featured more than 2,000 small businesses.
On Small Business Saturday, we thank the many local business owners who work tirelessly to make our community the special place that it is. We are grateful to Fairfield County Bank for supporting our Why Small Businesses Matter series and joining us on our mission to make communities better.
