Discovery Center Public Astronomy Program Winter Constellations and Orion Nebulae

The Discovery Center at Ridgefield with New Pond Farm Observatory, 101 Marchant Rd., West Redding, is offering a public astronomy program on Saturday, December 16 starting at 7:00 PM. For those interested, there will be a discussion of objects to be viewed in the classroom building at 6:30 PM. With the telescopes we will view the Orion nebulae, star clusters, and the planet Uranus. We will point out and discuss the winter constellations of Orion and his hunting dogs, Canis Major and Minor, the Gemini Twins, Taurus the Bull, Auriga the Charioteer. The photo is a 15,000 year old painting in France which is thought to contain the stars in Orion. For further details on the picture, see the website below.

Dress warmly and please bring a flashlight for the walk to the observatory. There is a warming building next to the telescopes. The program is $4 for Discovery Center members, with a maximum of $16 per family. For nonmembers, the charge is $6 and a maximum $24 per family. Registration is required at or call 203-438-1063. If the skies appear cloudy, check the website after 5:00 PM for program status.
