Bethel's Byrd's Books Celebrates Indie Bookstore Day on April 28

Independent Bookstore Day is a one-day national party that takes place at indie bookstores across the country on the last Saturday in April. This year, Bethel's Byrd's books, located at 126 Greenwood Avenue across from P.T. Barnum Square, will throw a book bash on Saturday, April 28th, 10:00am to 6:00pm, featuring a full program of store specials, book signings, and giveaways.

In 2017, there were 1,757 independent bookselling companies running 2,321 stores in the U.S. Every store is unique and independent, and so every party thrown on Independent Bookstore Day is different. In addition to authors, refreshments, kids' events, contests, and other fun stuff, special Independent Bookstore Day merchandise will be for sale beginning that day. "We look forward to this day every year," says Byrd's Book owner Alice Hutchinson. "The day honors and reflects on what an independent bookstore can be in a community - gathering place, discovery center, coffee klatch, and a point of civic pride."

Among the day's highlights will be a book signing of "Willow's Way" by Bethel's best-selling author, Sharon Struth, at 1:00pm to 2:00pm, as well as a booking signing, at 3:00pm, of "Beneath the Apple Leaves" by Newtown's Harmony Verna, who has written for the Food Network, Modern Bride MagazineConnecticut Woman Magazine and more.  Also, Libro.fm, the trendy site for audiobooks, will be giving away 25 digital downloads to folks who visit Byrd's Books throughout the day.

Highlights on the popular bookshop's shelves include this year's awardees for children and young adult books, including the Newbery Medal, Caldecott Medal, Michael L. Printz Award, Coretta Scott King Book Awards, and the Pura Belpré Award.
