Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT UK Gourmet!

Three questions with Lisa Whitmore, owner of UK Gourmet.

Why did you start your business?

I married an Englishman in 2000 and he really missed his favorite foods. After opening the store in 2003 we found that it really helped him feel less homesick. And since then we have met so many others that desperately needed their comfort foods too.

Best selling product/service?

Our Chocolates are probably the most popular thing we sell. The British and Irish chocolate is so creamy, they don't use wax, they use real sugar and real milk which makes for a superior taste.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

Most of our product we sell do come from across the pond but we use many local businesses to help us promote us. We use Lawlor Graphics in Bethel for our UKG Labels and stickers. Also, we have used Low Brow Printshop in Bethel to have custom t-shirts done. When we needed signs for our store we used The Sign Shoppe and Neon Works of Bethel as well. We also do sell a fun assortment of sterling Celtic jewelry from Silver Touch.
