Bethel's Byrd's Books hosts launch of highly anticipated Gail Carson Levine's Ogre Enchanted

Bethel's Byrd's Books hosts the launch of highly anticipated Gail Carson Levine's "Ogre Enchanted" on Tuesday, October 16

In 1998, Gail Carson Levine’s first book for children, Ella Enchanted, was named a Newbery Honor Book. Bethel's Byrd's Books is pleased and honored to be Levine's chosen venue at which to launch Ogre Enchanted, her latest tale set in the world of her first book. The highly anticipated edition, about which the prestigious book review magazine, Kirkus Review, wrote “Longtime fans and new readers alike will devour this”, will premier at the popular independent bookstore with a book signing on Tuesday, October 16th, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. To RSVP and save a book for signing, please go to https://conta.cc/2pzfXAm  Byrd's Books is located at 178 Greenwood Avenue, adjacent to The Toy Room and the nearby landmarked Opera House, across the street from the Bethel Public Library.

Alice Hutchinson, owner of Byrd's Books, known for its shelves of award-winning books for young people, couldn't be more pleased that Ms. Carson will be on hand for this special event. She says, "We've always prided ourselves on offering the best reads to our community, including selections that attract devoted readers of all ages. We are especially thrilled to welcome Gail Carson Levine to our new location."

Gail Carson Levine loves plot; her characters follow. She notes, "It's like when you do a very complicated jigsaw puzzle. Near the end, the pieces fall into place, and that's a reward for sticking with the puzzle." Ogre Enchanted is a prime example. The tale stars a clever heroine, Evie, who is determined to defy expectations—and outwit a fairy’s curse. Evie is happiest when she is healing people, diagnosing symptoms and prescribing medications, with the help of her devoted friend, and test subject, Wormy. So when Wormy unexpectedly proposes to her, she kindly turns him down; she has far too much to do to be marrying anyone. And besides, she simply isn’t in love with him. But a certain meddling fairy named Lucinda has been listening in, and she doesn’t approve of Evie’s rejection. Suddenly, Evie finds herself transformed from a girl into a hideous, hungry ogre! Stuck in this new and confusing form, Evie now has only sixty-two days to accept another proposal—or else be stuck as an ogre forever.

Levine’s other books include Ever, a New York Times bestseller; Fairest, a Best Book of the Year for Publishers Weekly and School Library Journal, and a New York Times bestseller; Dave at Night, an ALA Notable Book and Best Book for Young Adults; The WishThe Two Princesses of BamarreA Tale of Two Castles; and six Princess Tales books. She is also the author of the nonfiction books Writing Magic: Creating Stories That Fly and Writer to Writer: From Think to Ink, as well as the picture books Betsy Who Cried Wolf and Betsy Red Hoodie. Levine and her husband, David, live in a two-centuries-old farmhouse in the Hudson Valley of New York State.
