Why did you start your business?
Bite-Lite LLC is an affiliate of Bedoukian Research, Inc., a family business in Danbury for over 40 years. Bite-Lite’s goal when it started in 2010 was to develop and market the best and most effective natural mosquito repellent candles and other natural repellent products that are inspired by nature. We are committed to serving the public’s continuing needs for pest management and control with the best customer service possible.
What is your bestselling product/service?
Bite-Lite sells natural mosquito candles, traps, and lures. Based on one’s needs in controlling a particular pest nuisance, they are all popular. Our first launched products were our Natural Mosquito Repellent Candles that our scientists were inspired to create after observing monkeys at a Florida sanctuary using lemons and limes on their fur as natural repellents. Unlike mosquito candles made with only citronella, Bite-Lite’s collection of four stylish candles are distinctive and proven effective with a pleasant aroma of natural lemongrass and spearmint oils, 100% premium soy wax, and no smoke or soot.
In 2014, we introduced a new horse fly trap into the U.S. that was designed to catch tabanids, aka green heads, deer flies, yellow flies, and B52’s those bite animals and people at paddocks and pools, etc. This trap known as the H-Trap Professional Horse Fly Control System has now surpassed other commercial and residential traps ineffectiveness as evident by researchers’ studies and papers. To supplement catches, we began selling a chemical lure in certain states in 2018; testing has shown that the lure catches 3 to 5 times more than the trap alone. Three years ago, we began selling an indoor UV light trap called the Armadhilha that catches certain flying pests, including stink bugs, fruit flies, house flies, and other creepy crawlers. It is beautifully designed to fit into any décor and can be set either freestanding or wall-mounted. Either way, the heat optimized glue board is discretely placed out of sight and is a noiseless killer working best in the dark.
