Bethel's Byrd's Books kicks off new year with children's book launch, Jan 12

A New York City library branch has been designated for possible closure yet the bookish, socially awkward Pearl, the daughter of the librarian, can't imagine a world without the library. When the head of their Edna St. Vincent Millay statue goes missing, closure is closer than ever. But Pearl is determined to save the library. What can a ragtag library crew, including a constantly tap-dancing girl, an older boy Pearl has a crush on, and a pack of literate raccoons (!!!), do about it?

On Sunday, January 12th, 2:00pm to 4:00pm, join Bethel's Byrd's Books for a special reception, author talk, book launch and signing of Connecticut author Karen Romano Young's new book (for ages 8 to 11), A Girl, A Raccoon, and the Midnight Moon, to unravel the answers. Byrd's Books is located at 178 Greenwood Avenue, adjacent to The Toy Store and the nearby landmarked Opera House, across the street from the Bethel Public Library.

"We actively support and encourage young readers," says Byrd's Books' proprietor Alice Hutchinson, "so we're proud that our children's book corner carries one of the most comprehensive selection of titles in the region. We're also especially pleased to include works by Connecticut authors, like Karen, on our shelves."  Anyone who pre-orders A Girl, A Raccoon, and the Midnight Moon on line will be included in a special door prize drawing, and Hundred Percent, another of Karen's popular books, will be available at a discount when you register. To attend and purchase books, visit https://conta.cc/2Q8eiP5

Karen Romano Young is a writer, artist, deep-sea diver, and polar explorer, crazy about books, science, kids, and raccoons. She's written close to 30 books for and about children and young adults, and publishes a weekly science comic called #AntarcticLogA Girl, A Raccoon, and the Midnight Moon is illustrated by Jessixa Bagley.

Byrd's Books is open Tuesdays through Saturdays 10:00am to 6:00pm, Sundays 12:00 noon to 4:00pm.** On street parking lines Greenwood Avenue, and municipal parking is available at the Bethel Public Library across the street and at the "Old Train Station" which is where Broken Symmetry now resides. There are private lots nearby as well. For more information, visit ByrdsBooks.com or call (203) 730 BYRD (2973).
