Bethel's Byrd's Books partners with DAWS on Jan. 18

Bethel's Byrd's Books partners with Danbury Animal Welfare Society (DAWS) for 2nd Cat and Kitten Adoption Morning on Jan. 18

Adoption carries the added dimension of connection not only to your own tribe but beyond... It is the larger embrace.”  - Isabella Rossellini

Did you know that, in 2019, the Danbury Animal Welfare Society (or DAWS) opened its doors to more than 800 total adoptions:  321 cats/kittens and 551 dogs/puppies? In December, Bethel’s Byrd’s Books added its name to a long list of the 40-plus-year-old charitable organization’s enthusiastic supporters by hosting a cat adoption morning at the bookstore. The event proved so successful that owner Alice Hutchinson decided to enter 2020 with a 2nd cat/kitten adoption morning, embracing the new year with another “PAWS to READ.” Of course, reading will be involved.

On Saturday, January 18th, 10:00am to 12:00pm, amidst the bookshelves of the popular Greenwood Avenue Historic District shop, children are invited to read to kittens who are up for adoption. Byrd's Books is located at 178 Greenwood Avenue, adjacent to The Toy Store and the nearby landmarked Opera House, across the street from the Bethel Public Library.

“Partnering with DAWS is a no brainer,” says Alice. “The kittens love the attention and the children get to share a story. Of course, there might be some kitten petting involved.” Volunteers at DAWS, a no-kill animal shelter, will be on hand to answer questions about cat (or dog) adoption.

To sign up to have your child read to a kitten/cat at the bookstore, please call Byrd’s Books at (203) 730-2973 for scheduling and details.

Byrd's Books is open Tuesdays through Saturdays 10:00am to 6:00pm, Sundays 12:00 noon to 4:00pm.** On street parking lines Greenwood Avenue, and municipal parking is available at the Bethel Public Library across the street and at the "Old Train Station" which is where Broken Symmetry now resides. There are private lots nearby as well. For more information, visit ByrdsBooks.com or call (203) 730 BYRD (2973).

**Please note: Byrd’s Books will be CLOSED to take inventory to take inventory Monday, January 6th through Wednesday, January 8th, 10:00am to 6:00pm. Customers are welcome to leave a message at the store, pick up a previously ordered special order, or place an order on the website.
