Bethel's Byrd's Books presents bestselling author at Bethel Public Library, March 4

The New York Times' bestselling author of her premier novel Lilac Girls, Martha Hall Kelly, needs little introduction. Her book-signing appearances fill up quickly, so on Wednesday, March 4th, 7:00pm to 8:30pm, Bethel's popular bookstore, Byrd's Books, will move into the Maria Parloa Community Room at the Bethel Public Library, 189 Greenwood Avenue, to welcome the Litchfield, CT, author to discuss her latest novel, Lost Roses, the prequel to her notable first book.

Lost Roses will be released in paperback on March 3rd, the day before the event, so enthusiastic fans of Kelly's real-life WWII heroine in Lilac Girls, Caroline Ferriday, are encouraged to register and pre-order their copy to be waiting for them at the Library before space is filled to capacity. Registration is through Byrd's Books, not the Library, and can be made by going to https://conta.cc/2SpI0Ah.

Kelly says she spends her days filling legal pads with stories and reading World War II books, but Lost Roses, also inspired by true events, is set a generation earlier than in Lilac Girls and is centered around Caroline's mother, Eliza Ferriday.

Under the shadows of World War I (c. 1914) and on the brink of war so many times, though many treat the subject with only passing interest, Eliza Ferriday is thrilled to be traveling to St. Petersburg with Sofya Streshnayva, a cousin of the Romanovs. The two met years ago one summer in Paris and became close confidantes. But when Austria declares war on Serbia and Russia's Imperial dynasty begins to fall, Eliza escapes back to America, while Sofya and her family flee to their country estate. On one side of the Atlantic, Eliza is doing her part to help White Russian families find safety as they escape the revolution. When, however, Sofya's letters suddenly stop coming, she fears the worst for her best friend. Lost Roses is a must-read since insiders say Kelly's next book will be another prequel, a Civil War novel about Caroline's great-grandmother's family.

Located directly across the street from the Bethel Public Library, Byrd's Books, at 178 Greenwood Avenue, is adjacent to The Toy Room and the nearby landmarked Opera House.

The independent bookstore is open Tuesdays through Saturdays 10:00am to 6:00pm, Sundays 12:00 noon to 4:00pm. On street parking lines Greenwood Avenue, and municipal parking is available at the Bethel Public Library across the street and at the "Old Train Station" which is where Broken Symmetry now resides. There are private lots nearby as well.
