Bestselling Lilac Girls Author Martha Hall Kelly in Bethel on March 4

The New York Times' bestselling author of Lilac Girls, Martha Hall Kelly will discuss her latest novel, Lost Roses, at Bethel Public Library on Wednesday, March 4 from 7-8:30 p.m. Lost Roses is the prequel to Lilac Girls. Kelly says she spends her days filling legal pads with stories and reading World War II books, but Lost Roses, also inspired by true events, is set a generation earlier than in Lilac Girls and is centered around Caroline's mother, Eliza Ferriday.

Lost Roses will be released in paperback on March 3. Attendees are encouraged to register and pre-order their copy of the book; pre-orders will be waiting for attendees at the Library. Registration is through Byrd's Books, not the Library, and can be made online here.

Under the shadows of World War I (c. 1914) and on the brink of war so many times, though many treat the subject with only passing interest, Eliza Ferriday is thrilled to be traveling to St. Petersburg with Sofya Streshnayva, a cousin of the Romanovs. The two met years ago one summer in Paris and became close confidantes. But when Austria declares war on Serbia and Russia's Imperial dynasty begins to fall, Eliza escapes back to America, while Sofya and her family flee to their country estate. On one side of the Atlantic, Eliza is doing her part to help White Russian families find safety as they escape the revolution. When, however, Sofya's letters suddenly stop coming, she fears the worst for her best friend. Lost Roses is a must-read since insiders say Kelly's next book will be another prequel, a Civil War novel about Caroline's great-grandmother's family.
