Bethel's Byrd's Books closes until further notice to maintain community wellness

Bethel's Byrd's Books closes until further notice to maintain community wellness but keep you reading

In response to Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont's order to close non-essential services to preserve the wellbeing of the state's and nearby communities, Bethel's Byrd's Books will close to the public until further notice. However, owner Alice Hutchinson and her dedicated bibliophiles are making every effort to assist enthusiastic supporters, event goers, and avid readers in lightening our shared, evolving crisis while maintaining community wellness.

By visiting the bookstore's web site, ByrdsBooks.com, you can still order any book in print directly. Be sure to choose the option to have your purchases mailed to you so that you receive your orders promptly. On the site, you will also be directed to links that allow you to access audio- and ebooks; keep track of rescheduled book signings, book group gatherings, and other special events; and sign up to receive notices about the most recent bestsellers and book "buzz."

By purchasing books through the shop's web site, frequenting its online partners, and by investing in Byrd's Books Gift Certificates, you will assure that Bethel's popular independent bookstore and community hub will get through the dramatic turndown we currently share. Gift Certificates may be purchased by calling Byrd's Books at (203) 730-2973.

Byrd’s Books, located at 178 Greenwood Avenue, adjacent to The Toy Room and the nearby landmarked Opera House, across the street from the Bethel Public Library, is a general bookstore that carries only new titles, with a special focus on Connecticut authors, poets, publishers and illustrators. As a proud member of the American Bookseller’s Association and its division, Indiebound, Byrd’s Books participates in the larger community of bookselling nationwide, especially encouraging and promoting a vibrant network of independent bookstore.  Byrd's Books features additional sections that include bestsellers, children's books, poetry, mystery, science and nature, and classics, as well as greeting cards, gifts, puzzles, and a large selection of discounted titles.

"Our wish is for you and yours to keep safe and stay well," says Alice. Thank you for your support of independent bookselling."
