Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Educational Innovations!

Four questions with Tami G. O'Connor, founder of Educational Innovations.

Why did you start your business?

As a former school teacher for 16 years, it was clear to me that kids love hands-on science experiments. The materials we carry are safe, fun, educational and highly engaging for kids of all ages. The best part about them is that the kids enjoy the materials so much, they often don’t even realize how much they are learning!

Finish this sentence in regard to your business. "I wish I could…"

I wish I could get hands-on science into every household, especially at this very difficult time when parents are looking for authentic learning activities that will keep their kids engaged and happy.

What is your best selling product/service?

It’s hard to say which is our best selling product because it depends on the customer. If we’re talking about parents buying for their children, then our best selling products would be our Home Science Labs (https://www.teachersource.com/product/home-science-lab/gifts) and our Surprising Science for Kids kits (https://www.teachersource.com/category/surprising-science). These products contain activities elementary-aged children can do at home with their families at affordable prices.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

We use Typographic Services here in the Francis J. Clarke Park for all our printing needs. They are super nice and produce high quality work quickly and at reasonable prices. We also use Biksbees and so many of the surrounding restaurants to cater to our meetings, holiday parties, and lunches. Bethel is teaming with great businesses!
