Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Wakeman Detailing!

Four questions with Kevin Wakeman, founder of Wakeman Detailing.

Why did you start your business?

I started my business out of a passion for cars. I worked in my dad's auto body shop for a good portion of my life. When I started wet sanding and buffing the fresh paint jobs I realized how much I loved looking at my fresh polish job. After taking that paint job from looking good and then removing the orange peel and polishing it to a swirl-free finish it would look beautiful. And then everything went from there.

What is your best-selling product/service?

Most of the time I’m doing a full detail, so not only is the paint gleaming the interior is spotless and you left feeling like you have a brand new car.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

My father’s business is Wakeman’s Auto Works. Without that, I wouldn’t have found or been able to work on my passion.

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

Yes, I have imagined having a full shop fully dedicated to detailing and vehicle preservation for classic and modern cars of all types.
