Bethel’s Byrd’s Books joins in 8th annual Independent Bookstore Day on Saturday!

On the last Saturday in April, a one-day party takes place at indie bookstores across the country: Independent Bookstore Day.

This year on Saturday, April 30th, Bethel’s Byrd’s Books will join 872 stores, located in all 50 states, to celebrate the 8th annual Independent Bookstore Day with author visits, raffles, exclusive items that you can only get on that day, and other fun stuff. That day, seventeen Connecticut bookstores are also kicking off a 2-day book crawl, created for the most enthusiastic bibliophiles but equally fun for those who want to enjoy an adventurous weekend.

“Byrd’s Books is an essential part of our community and local commerce,” says Janice Chrzescijanek, Director of Economic Development for the Town of Bethel. “We are very fortunate to have an independent bookstore in town, one that provides incredible events and supports the community.” Only 580 stores participated in pre-pandemic 2019, so 2022 marks a 55% increase in nationwide participation. Byrd’s Books is located at 178 Greenwood Avenue, across from the Bethel Public Library, and is the current home of the prestigious author series, Write America, airing over the Crowdcast channel.

Independent Bookstore Day at Byrd’s Books will take place from 10:00am to 6:00pm, and promises to be jam-packed with literary surprises. Best-selling author Nan Rossiter is scheduled to appear at 11:00am to read and sign her third Savannah Skies novel, A Good Measure, a heartwarming story of love and acceptance that returns to Tyler Island off the coast of Georgia — and to finding one’s place in the world. At 1:00pm, award-winning children’s science poet, Leslie Bulion, will introduce and sign her new book, Serengeti: Plains of Grass, a lyrical salute to one of the most spectacular and productive ecosystems on Earth.

You can pre-order these books by calling Byrd’s Books at 203-730-2973 or going to ByrdsBooks.com, and Byrd’s Books will hold them for the signing.
