Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The local shop movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Victoria The Hair Queen!

Three questions with Victoria Ackerly, founder of Victoria The Hair Queen.

Why did you start your business?

I started my business because I always wanted to do something more. Previously I managed salons and I thoroughly enjoy the administrative side of things on top of my passion for hair. So I wanted to challenge myself and step outside of my comfort zone by being a business owner. I just celebrated one month in business so I am very brand new and it’s been wonderful!

I’m so grateful for my wonderful clients who trust me to work on their hair and build bonds with them.

What is your best-selling product/service?

My best-selling service has to be any highlights/balayage. Lightening services are so much fun for me and my creative mind has a place to run free. Not all highlights/balayage equals blonde, there are a lot of brunettes who want to add some movement into their color without being “blonde”. It’s a very fun space to create!

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

The number one local business I use is Obsidian Salon! This is the salon where I rent my chair. Erin Ray is the owner and from the moment I met her I knew this was the best place for me to start. I also use Masello of NE, and DePasquale Salon Systems as my distributors.

Victoria would like to nominate Obsidian Salon to be featured next!
