Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT The Bloom Room!

Three questions with Lauren Donnelly, founder of The Bloom Room.

Why did you start your business?

I started working for myself back in March of 2022. Previously, I had managed several salons and decided after some time that I no longer wanted to work for someone, and instead wanted to focus on working for myself. Renting a chair at Obsidian Salon was my next step in doing so! It has been a wonderful 7 months so far, and I am beyond excited to work the holiday season there!

What is your best-selling product/service?

My best-selling services would have to be balayage and hair extensions. Balayage is a gorgeous trend that has taken over traditional highlights, to create a more “lived-in,” low-maintenance look. Hair extensions have become wildly more popular over the year, and are the easiest way to upgrade your look! You could have short hair one day, or long the next.

They’re great for adding color to your hair (without actually coloring it,) length, and volume. I love being able to change someone’s entire look by just adding hair extensions. I offer hand-tied weft, tape-in, keratin tip, and tip extensions.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

I proudly support many local businesses in the area. Obsidian Salon is where I rent my chair and can happily call home. I love being able to work side by side with all of the amazing women that also run their businesses out of Obsidian. Such as Erin Ray, Victoria Ackerly, Tory Sugden, Lauren Hernandez, and Song Detrinca.

All of my printing/design work for business cards is done by Impulse Design in Danbury. My favorite local aesthetician, Beauty by Bii, is located at Artista Beauty Studios. I could go on and on! Supporting local businesses, especially those that are women-owned and run, is one of my joys in life!

Lauren would like to nominate Bianca Leite, owner of Beauty by Bii to be featured next!
