Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Sunshine Daycare!

Three questions with Joyce Lewis, founder of Sunshine Daycare.

Why did you start your business?

I started my business in the year 2000. As I was a mom with a new infant, I was looking for daycare. After meeting with local daycare providers, I decided to open my licensed family daycare. I've been in business for over 20 years, and the best way for other families to know of my business is through referrals from previous families.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

Yes, I use many local businesses in town including Bethel Foods (for grocery shopping) and Famous Pizza (my weekly pizza carvings). Anytime I need any kind of upgrading of equipment, I’m sure to go to Ace Hardware!

Anything you want the community to know?

I am happy that I have helped so many local families and fortunate to watch these children grow from little kids to graduating high school seniors, to college students, and finally, professionals living in our lovely town of Bethel and surrounding areas.

Joyce would like to nominate a fellow family child care provider - Little Leprechauns Daycare - Jane Vizi to be featured next!
