Why Small Businesses Matter
Shop small, do big things for your community
Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!
You're IT Custom Cakes by Flour!
Three questions with Olga Rivera-Parks, founder of Custom Cakes by Flour.
Why did you start your business?
I started my business, Custom Cakes by Flour in 2021 but 2022 is my year! I make everything from decorated cookies, to custom-themed cakes, my very own and unique idea 'munchie cups', and cake pops...you name it and I can make it. Sure anyone can walk into a bakery and order off a menu or picture but my style is to replicate my customer's vision. Everything is custom. No cake is ever the same. So it's like starting a new job every day! Haha.
What is your best-selling product/service?
My best seller would be the "Italian Stallion" cake. It's a decadent chocolate and vanilla marbled cake with Nutella mousse and chocolate espresso buttercream. It has been a fan favorite since I posted my new menu a couple of months ago!
Have you "reimagined" your small business?
I imagine my small business to flourish in the next year. As word gets around I can see it expanding to neighboring towns as "A place you can order everything at once, just the way you want it."
Olga would like to nominate Lara Knight Bride of Bethel to be featured next - "Custom wedding and evening gown designer"!
