Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Happily Furever After Rescue!

Three questions with Jaclyn Gartner, founder of Happily Furever After Rescue.

Why did you start your business?

I was inspired to start Happily Furever After Rescue after adopting a sweet and beautiful big-headed, 90 lb. "Pittie" named Tyler. He was the dog nobody wanted; he was in a shelter for two-and-a-half years and was even adopted and returned multiple times. When I saw his flyer, it felt like fate, and I knew he was destined to be mine.

I took a chance on Tyler and adopting him completely changed my life. He sparked my interest in animal rescue, so I began volunteering at my local shelter in 2018, then started my very own in 2020. Although Tyler has since passed, he left a legacy on the world and is the reason behind every adoption we do here at Happily Furever After Rescue.

What is your best-selling product/service?

Happily, Furever After Rescue is a foster-based non-profit organization that saves dogs and cats locally in CT and from kill shelters across the country. Many of the animals we save have been abandoned, abused, lost, or neglected and are indeed given a second "leash on life." Happily, Furever After Rescue is all about "making dreams come true, four paws at a time..."

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

We haven't "reimagined" rescue, however, we take a very personable approach to what we do and remain a resource and support system to our adopters, even after an animal goes off to their furever home.

Jaclyn would like to nominate The Toy Room to be featured next - "Kim, the owner, has always been amazing to us and has even hosted adoption events for our animals!"
