Dan Carter Receives Bethel RTC Endorsement

Former State Representative Dan Carter has received the endorsement of the Bethel Republican Town Committee in his bid to become the First Selectman of Bethel.

“I am truly honored to receive the endorsement of the Republican Town Committee for the office of First Selectman in the upcoming special election,” said Carter. “I appreciate their support and hope I can earn the support of all the Republicans in Bethel at the caucus on Monday.”

Carter, who served as the State Representative for the 2nd district from 2011 to 2017 filed in September, shortly after Matt Knickerbocker announced he would be leaving the position, to run in a special election on February 7th, 2023.

“This endorsement means so much to me personally because it shows the town committee understands I put the community I represent first. That’s something I have always been proud of,” remarked Carter. “They understand that the First Selectman position requires a professional who can work with everyone in the town.”

Carter has been outspoken about the need for Bethel to remain an affordable place to live. “I think the residents expect a town government that works for them to make life better, not harder,” said Carter. “With responsible budgeting, and both attracting and retaining businesses in town, we can still ensure we have great schools and the services in place to improve the lives of all residents.”

As a former military officer and a veteran, Carter also speaks on his concerns for the public health and safety needs of Bethel residents. “With increasing crime and public health concerns on the minds of many residents, we must ensure we support all of our first responders and frontline workers,” said Carter. “We also have critical issues affecting our community, including mental health issues and opioid addiction, that we need to stay on top of at the local level.”

The Republican caucus will be held at the Bethel Middle School Auditorium on Monday, October 24th, 2022 at 7:30 pm. All registered Republicans are encouraged to attend. The special election has been announced for February 7th, 2023.
