Town of Bethel: Winter Storm Safety Tips

We will experience our first major snowstorm of the 2020-2021 winter season, beginning shortly after dark this evening. The storm is expected to continue through early Thursday and produce heavy snow and strong winds. Although storms this early in the season can be widely variable, the current forecast calls for anywhere from10" to 18" for our area.

Please take a moment to review a few safety tips:

  • Please stay home, if at all possible. Reduced traffic is not only safer for you and others, it helps our highway crews clear roadways more efficiently.
  • If you have not already done so, consider signing up to receive emergency notifications by text message, email or phone call through our Everbridge system. You can access the signup page on the town website by clicking here.
  • If you must go out, please take extra care and slow down. Winter driving on snow and ice takes a little getting used to. Even if you have a great all-wheel drive vehicle, anything that moves on snow and ice also has to be able to stop. The basic laws of physics never change!
  • Finally, please be reminded that overnight on-street parking is prohibited in Bethel from November 15th to April 15th to facilitate snow removal operations.
