Bethel Police Arrest Fugitive from Justice, Held on Two Million Dollars Bond

On February 4, 2022, Bethel Police received information that a suspect in a shooting from Greenville North Carolina was in the Town of Bethel.
 
The suspect, “Freedom Shapel Morris”, is a WANTED FUGITIVE out of North Carolina for charges in their state of “Assault with a Deadly Weapon” and “Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill”.
 
Officers from our Patrol Division Evening Shift and the Detective Bureau began an investigation and learned that the suspect was staying at the Microtel located at 80 Benedict Road. Bethel Police coordinated their efforts along with the Danbury Regional Emergency Services Team.  The regional ESU team is comprised of members of the Danbury, Bethel, Newtown, Brookfield and Ridgefield Police Departments.  
 
The ESU team was able to peacefully apprehend Morris at the Microtel without incident.
 
The Bethel Police Department took custody of Morris and charged him as a Fugitive from Justice and he is being held at the Bethel Police Department on two million dollars bond. Morris will be arraigned at Danbury Superior Court on February 7th, 2022.
