Bethel Police Department is once again proud to be partnering with Connecticut Highway Safety to provide targeted enforcement for distracted driving

It may be April Fool's Day, but when it comes to distracted driving...we don't joke around!

April marks the start of the national high-visibility campaign to raise awareness for National Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

The Bethel Police Department is once again proud to be partnering with Connecticut Highway Safety to provide targeted enforcement for distracted driving.

The State of Connecticut prohibits the use of any hand held mobile electronic devices while operating a motor vehicle. Our newer drivers, age 16 or 17, are prohibited from using a cell phone or mobile device at any time - even with a hands free accessory! Due to the serious risk that distracted driving poses to residents across the state, infraction fines range from $200-$625.

In 2020, nearly 5,000 Connecticut crashes were attributed to distracted driving and as a result, they could have been avoided. Don't be a fool this April, the calls and texts can wait!
