The Putnam County Fair in Carmel, NY has something for everyone. Celebrating 48 years this year, the 3-day fair offers live music & performances, magic shows, food, exhibits, animals, craft tent, games & more! The Fair is in full swing at the Putnam County Veterans Park. The Fair Opened Friday July 26th at noon fanfare and eager campers from area summer camps including Green Chimneys were anxious to partake in all activities and entertainment the event offers.
At the Opening ceremony attendees heard from County Executive Maryellen Odell and Deputy County Exec Paul Eldridge, who was recognized and honored by the Cornell Cooperative extension for his work with the organization.
Ralph Fleischman was on hand with his family and described the fair as "a wonderful event that showcases the spirit of youth in the area" and that he "was happy to be part of an organization that promotes that spirit and the County in general". Mr Fleischman is the Deputy Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus - Our Lady of the Lakes Council 6318 in Carmel, which is one of the sponsors of the fair.
The Fair ends today at 5 pm but there is still plenty to see and do from local music groups performing in the Shady Grove Theater, to the animals and magicians. There is also plenty of food and snacks available and al proceeds go to further the Putnam Cornell Cooperative 4H programs. There is a touch a truck event sponsored by the Teamsters. The Putnam County Coalition that Cares (CTC) has a 12 foot high (approx.) inflatable brain that you can walk through and learn about the different effects drugs like Marijuana, Nicotine and Alcohol have on a developing mind.
