Longtime Village Resident, Employee and Planning Board Member, Rick Stockburger, Passes

Richard Stockburger, a 27 year resident of Brewster, NY passed away at Regional Hospice of Danbury on Saturday December 14th 2019. The cause of death was metastasized esophageal cancer. He was 72 years old. 

Mr. Stockburger was born April 29, 1947 in Philadelphia, Pa (Germantown) to Leonard and Wilhelmina Vaughn Stockburger and graduated Penn State with a degree Electrical Engineering. 

He was a 24 year veteran of the United States Marine Corp. After retiring from the Corp in 1991, he moved to Brewster with his beloved wife Teresa Patton Stockburger whom he married in Woodstock, Virginia on June 6th, 1987.

Rick, as he was known to locals, was extremely active in the community, a member of the Croton Falls Presbyterian Church he also supported local organizations as Smile Train, the Heifer Project and the Electrical Engineering Honor Society Tau Beta Phi. He was also a long time member of the Village of Brewster Planning Board and volunteered his time as the Village’s Parking Enforcement Officer. He helped set up the Local Emergency Shelter Program that operates in cooperation with area churches and provides respite for area homeless persons on cold winter nights.

He is survived by his Loving wife Teresa, of Brewster, a daughter Amy Tignor, her husband Matt and two grandsons: Brenden and Kieran, all of Springfield, MO, nieces Heather Patton of Aldie, VA and Erica Patton of Parker, CO, both of whom were like daughters to him. In addition he is survived by two brothers, Leonard Jr. of Durham, NC and Steven of Willow Grove, PA.

His family members are planning a Celebration of his life to occur on April 25th, 2020, The location and time will be announced at a later date.

Ricks remains were donated to SUNY by his wife Teresa.
