One of the region’s premier lacrosse players, Brewster’s Mary Kate Lonegan, has signed a letter of intent to study and play lacrosse at Pace University in Westchester in the fall.
Lonegan recently penned her signature at Brewster High School while her parents, Mary-Beth and Matt, her coaches, Sara DiDio and Mark Donelan and the Brewster School District’s Director of Athletics Dean Berardo looked on.
DiDio said what made the event so special was that Mary Kate, an outstanding student-athlete, ruptured her ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) last year, but was able to recover and continue her athletic career.
The young student-athlete was described by her parents as a young woman who had been striving for excellence since early childhood.
Her dad called his daughter a “dynamo.”
“We are so proud of what Mary Kate has accomplished and what lies ahead for her,” Mr. Lonegan said.
Mary-Beth Lonegan said the icing on the cake was that her daughter would remain local.
“Our daughter will be studying and participating on the athletic field close to home,” Mrs. Lonegan said.
