The Brewster Varsity Football team celebrated their homecoming today at 7pm on the turf. The team, with a 4-1 record this season, went up against the Panas Panthers of Lakeland.
The Brewster Bears scored the first touchdown of the game only three minutes into the first quarter, kicking the field goal, and ended the first quarter with a score of 7 to 0. Brewster achieved a significant lead in the second quarter. Their second touchdown (with extra point) was scored halfway through the second quarter, and a third (again with extra point) was scored with only 30 seconds left in the half. With the score at 21 to nothing at halftime, the Bears Den was getting complacent.
With only a few minutes left in the game, Brewster took the lead again with another touchdown and extra point.
In the last nine seconds of the game, Brewster was on defense, one Panas play threw the ball to a teammate in the end zone, just to be slapped out of the air just as the time ran out. However, elsewhere on the field, a tackle flung a Panas player’s helmet off, resulting in a yellow flag for Brewster.
After a brief time out, the refs gave Panas 1 down. They ran the same play, the quarterback threw the ball to a player in the endzone, once again to get knocked down by Brewster, securing their win.
